Position Title
Substance Use Disorder
Counselor
Description
This unique CDP positions is
generated by a King County Program designed to
support access to substance use disorder care for populations
who are otherwise
not well served by the traditional service models. The
counselor will be in direct
contact with youth, support staff, teacher, and
administrators within the Riverview
School District and Community working to create relationships
that perpetuate
access to substance use disorder care, while promoting health
and wellbeing
through prevention. The ideal candidate enjoys a fluid work
environment,
understands the unique properties of school culture and
systems, manages time
and schedules independently, works well with a
multidisciplinary team and thrives
in an area of challenge specific to youth and young adults.
Responsibilities
1. Outpatient groups at one or
more Friends of Youth locations.
2. Outpatient services to individuals and families.
3. Provide clinical assessments.
4. Maintain client confidentiality with regard to HIPAA and

5. Maintain client case file records to meet all WAC, King
County and COA
requirements.
6. Work cooperatively with interagency and other agency staff
in mutual case
consultation.
7. Maintain continuing education requirements for Chemical
Dependency
Professionals (CDP) or education for trainees (CDPT).
8. Maintain a 60% direct service goal.
9. Utilize agency programs/services in an effort to provide a
continuum of care.
10. Provide case consultation linkage to and coordination of
services with collateral
contacts and advocacy for assigned clients.
11. Meet with supervisor on a regular basis and attend all
required meetings,
consultations and trainings.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A. Education and Experience
1. Current Chemical Dependency
Professional certification or Trainee per WAC
388-805
2. BA in Psychology, Social Work, or
a related field. Master's Degree preferred.
3. Bilingual (fluent in both Spanish
and English) Preferred
4. No misuse of chemicals two years
prior to hiring and during employment.

3. Knowledge of relevant COA
standards and participation in the Performance
and Quality Improvement process.
4. Employees and volunteers who
operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
on Friends of Youth business must
have a safe driving record as defined by
Friends of Youth. Employees and
volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s)
on Friends of Youth business must
carry auto liability insurance that complies
with the requirements of Friends of
Youth.
5. Understanding of adolescent
development and identity formation.
