Position Title

    Medical Biller

Description

    This position will provide billing support to Friends of Youth outpatient services. They
    are responsible for the daily operations of the clients’ accounts receivable function
    for behavioral health clients, including pre-authorization, verification of benefits
    eligibility, reviewing bills for accuracy & completeness, preparing and transmitting
    claims (both electronic and paper), and coordination of concurrent reviews and
    collections.

Responsibilities

    A. Biller Accounting/Receivables Management
        1. Responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures.
        2. Completion of the electronic claims submission in accordance with all third
        party payers including Medicaid/PHP and Title XIX requirements to support
        timely payment of claims.
        3. Follow-up on all claims left unpaid after 30 days by communication with
        payer via telephone and/or in writing.
        4. Ability to understand all payer payment arrangements by interpreting
        contractual agreements and coordinating reimbursement activity with payers.
        5. Understanding the clinical coding and cross-tracking with payer insurance
        revenues coding to avoid fraudulent billing of services.
        6. Understanding Credible software and ability to produce accurate
        management of reports when requested. Work closely with Data Manager &
        Business Manager in updating Billing Matrix.
        7. Willingness to train and collaborate with others in billing and collections
        standards.
        8. Close collaboration with the clinical staff including attending monthly staff
        meetings.
        9. Perform- credit and collections follow-up necessary to maximize payment on
        all client accounts.
        10. Interaction with insurance companies to ensure accurate, streamlined
        payment and processing of claims.
        11. Responsible for coordinating any audits and communication with insurance
        companies under the Supervision of Billing Manager.

    B. Payment Verification and follow-up
        1. Periodically perform payment verification calculations to ensure payers have
        paid at the contracted rate.
        2. Perform analysis of payer charges and reimbursement on an as needed basis.
        3. Follow-up on outstanding client AR, contacting client’s over the phone or in
        person.
        4. Explaining insurance benefits and expected payment arrangements with
        clients.
        5. Clear documentation of payment’s and/or payment arrangements in Credible.
        6. Prompt follow-up with client’s regarding billing inquiries.
        7. Mail out statements to clients on a monthly basis.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Training and experience in client data management and reporting.
        2. Understanding of PQI, preferably in a non-profit social service agency.
        3. A bachelor’s degree in a in a database/data management related field or
        equivalent combination of education and experience.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. Able to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
        2. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        3. Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel and other data analyzing
        software.
        4. Strong background in data management practices.
        5. Exceptional attention to detail while entering data and checking data for
        accuracy, downloading information, and running reports that analyze data.
        6. Strong team skills, willingness and ability to closely coordinate work and
        history of consistently meeting and exceeding outcome goals.
        7. Familiarity with accreditation and participation in a Performance and Quality    
        Improvement process is preferred.
        8. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of
        Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the
        requirements of Friends of Youth.
