Position Title

    Adolescent & Family Therapist - Youth Engagement Team

Description

    The Adolescent and Family Therapist will lead the Youth Engagement Team
    (YET) project with the goal of reducing homelessness for systems involved youth
    under the age of 18 in King County. Using a strength based, trauma informed,
    wraparound service philosophy, the Adolescent and Family Therapist will help youth
    at risk of homelessness and their families who are in need of conflict mediation,
    case management and counseling support. The therapist must have a strong
    clinical background, knowledge of community and housing resources, experience
    mediating with families and adolescents and teaching conflict resolution skills.
    The therapist will work to engage and motivate youth and families to participate in
    supportive services designed to prevent homelessness and maintain family
    reunification whenever possible. This position also supervises the Homelessness
    Prevention Housing Navigator assigned to the Youth Engagement Team project and
    will oversee YET programming and collaborative efforts with project partners.

    This position is part of the Youth Homeless Demonstration Project (YHDP) and
    is funded for 2 years.

Responsibilities

    A. Direct Service
        1. Maintain a caseload of youth who are systems involved, at risk of
        experiencing homelessness, and/or currently homeless or unstably housed.
        2. Assist youth and their families in the identification of primary sources of
        conflict. Coach and counsel the youth and families both individually and in
        joint sessions to work toward resolving these sources of conflict.
        3. Convene multidisciplinary meetings incorporating family and natural supports
        in a wraparound process.
        4. Work collaboratively with the agency staff team to help create short and
        longer-term service plans with youth as they relate to strengthening family
        relationships and/or identifying natural supports.
        5. Meet at least weekly with each youth and family while engaged in program.
        These contacts may be a conducted over phone or in person taking place in the
        home or community if needed in order to support sustained family reconciliation.
        6. Facilitate weekly case staffing meetings providing reports and progress
        toward family and youth engagement and housing stability.
        7. Create an aftercare support plan with the youth and family and when agreed
        upon, schedule follow-up contact either by phone or in sessions to take place in
        the home or community.
        8. In collaboration with the Housing Navigator, provide referrals and assist youth
        and families in connecting with additional services as needed.
        9. Transport clients when necessary throughout King County.

    B. Administrative
        1. Observe/follow all of the confidentiality rights of clients.
        2. Maintain clear, up to date progress notes and case plans.
        3. Complete family assessments and maintain hard copies in files.
        4. Ensure all required confidentiality and other compliance related documents
        are current for all youth and families enrolled in the project.
        5. Collect required client data and enter data into agency database, and report
        data to supervisor.
        6. Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    C. Supervision and Project Collaboration
        1. Oversee Youth Engagement Team programming and support strong
        communication and collaborative relationships in the program development
        phase and ongoing project implementation with all project partners (YMCA,
        Children’s Administration, LCYC, All Home staff and joint advisory committee
        team members).
        2. Oversee training and quality assurance for YET Homelessness Prevention
        Housing Navigator position.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Licensed clinical social worker or mental health provider (social worker, youth
        and family therapist or psychologist) or a mental health professional in the
        process of obtaining licensure.
        2. Three years of experience in providing direct service role with families and
        youth experiencing homelessness.
        3. Significant experience working with marginalized and underserved
        communities.

    B. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
        1. Experience providing family support and/or counseling utilizing a wraparound
        approach.
        2. Advanced clinical competency in treating complex traumas and family
        dynamic issues utilizing a strengths-based holistic approach.
        3. Familiarity with Ecologically based family therapy, Functional Family
        Therapy training and/or Multi-Systemic Therapy preferred.
        4. Extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ youth, families, and communities of
        color.
        5. Demonstrated commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        6. Experience working with systems involved young people including foster care
        and juvenile justice.
        7. Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
        8. Group process/facilitation skills.
        9. Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships.
        10. Ability to develop and maintain appropriate boundaries.
        11. Ability to communicate with a wide variety of professionals.
        12. Comfortable interacting with youth and families in informal settings.
        13. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (written and verbal)
        skills.
        14. Ability to handle unique team dynamics and be an effective team member.

Hours

    Full Time

Salary

    $70,000 - 75,000 DOE
