Position Title

    Drop-in and Street Outreach Staff

Description

    The Drop-in and Street Outreach Staff is responsible for providing street outreach
    and survival supplies to out-of-home, runaway and homeless youth and young adults
    in North and East King County. The Drop-in and Street Outreach Staff also works
    to operate the Redmond Youth Service Center drop-in center. This position works
    as part of a team within the Outreach team. Other responsibilities include referring
    runaway and homeless youth to shelter and case management, youth and young
    adult advocacy, developing community awareness about Friends of Youth homeless
    youth services.

Responsibilities

    A. Street Outreach
        1. Locating and providing vehicle-based street outreach to runaway and
        homeless youth and young adults who are on the street or temporarily living
        with friends, family members, and other adults.
        2. Make contact and develop rapport with runaway and youth and young
        adults experiencing homelessness.
        3. Connecting with schools, teen centers, public libraries, community
        businesses and other community services where youth are frequently located.
        4. Providing out-of-home youth and young adults with necessary referrals and
        information for temporary housing and community resources.
        5. Maintain and interact in a culturally and trauma informed, respectful, and
        professional demeanor.
        6. Transport youth and young adults to safe, temporary shelter as needed.
        7. Attend and participate in monthly Shelter, Outreach and Supportive
        Services meetings Assist in daily tracking of interactions with youth and
        items distributed.

    B. Drop-in Operation and Support
        1. Support young people in accessing food, clothing, hygiene supplies, etc.
        2. Monitor and assist in scheduling programming for the Redmond Youth
        Service Center Drop-in Center
        3. Assist with coordinating Youth Advisory Board.
        4. Staff and assist in operating daily Drop-In hours, maintaining consistent
        record keeping of visitors and items distributed.
        5. Attend community meetings with other service providers to share program
        information and coordinate services.
        6. Participate in coordinating grant reporting
        7. Maintain record of disciplinary actions including bars and restorative justice

    C. Community Outreach
        1. Maintain positive relationships with school, police, health providers, churches
        and other groups who might provide services or referrals to the Outreach Program.
        2. When directed by supervisor, participate in presentation to school personnel,
        police, community business and other community services.
        3. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor’s Degree in social services related field is preferred or 2 years
        experience working with youth and young adults. Having experienced
        homelessness, street culture and/or knowledge of working with youth and
        young adults can be substituted for education or years of work experience.
        2. Experience in working with at-risk and or youth experiencing homelessness
        is preferred.
        3. Education or experience in cultural competency.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s)
        on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies
        with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
        2. Knowledge of relevant COA standards and participation in a Performance and
        Quality Improvement process.
        3. Familiarity with East King County resources preferred.
        4. Understanding of youth and young adult development.
        5. Comfortable interacting with youth in informal settings.
        6. Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and
        a commitment to the value of cultural competency.

    $17.10 / hour
