Position Title

    Overnight Counselor - The Landing


    The Overnight Counselor provides supervision, guidance, and performs certain
    guidance tasks in the shelter for up to twenty homeless young adults, implements
    agency and shelter policies, and is responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the
    facility. The Overnight Counselor is an awake staff and performs the tasks below.


    A. Guidance and Supervision
        1. Have overall responsibility for security of facility and grounds during shift.
        2. Responsible to know whereabouts of every young adult at all times.
        3. Respect confidentiality of the young adult and his/her family.
        4. Provide a safe, caring and non-judgmental environment for the young adults.   
        5. Respect differences in the young adult’s cultural, social, sexual and religious
        background. Enhance cultural pride.
        6. Monitor laundry and showers.
        7. Assist dinner donors and volunteers.
        8. Report to Program Coordinator, Mental Health Therapist, Substance Use
        Disorder Enhancement Counselor and Senior Program Manager of Shelter,
        Outreach and Support extraordinary changes in young adult’s behavior or
        9. Maintain prescribed medications in a secure area.
        10. Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with Together Center

    B. Placement Tasks
        1. Check all young adults into The Landing during scheduled times.
        2. Initiate intake for any young adult who is a new guest during his/her shift.

    C. Security Checks
        1. Perform security checks before, during and after shift.
        2. Maintain a safe environment for guests in shelter.

    D. Laundry
        1. Wash, dry, and fold used towels each night.
        2. Collect dirty towels and blankets each morning and take to laundry room.
    E. Administrative Duties
        1. Maintain guest records in Youth Force and HMIS database
        2. Maintain accurate guest files
        3. Maintain monthly tracking of bus tickets

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. A Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences field is strongly preferred.
        2. Must have Red Cross First Aid/CPR card and Food Handler’s permit or obtain
        them within 30 days of hiring.
        3. Must pass TB screening.
    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. Ability to observe and discuss behavior problems and suggest appropriate
        2. Good role model.
        3. Ability to work in a setting that can be highly stressful.
        4. Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and
        a commitment to the value of cultural competency.
        5. Ability to interact with volunteers and provide leadership.
        6. Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of organizations.
        7. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive
        8. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.


    3 Overnight shifts from 8:30pm-8am and 1 evening shift 8pm-midnight


    $17 / hour
