Position Title

    Family Engagement Specialist


    Are you interested in working with youth and young adults to strengthen their
    relationships and keep youth off the streets? Young people often turn to the streets
    when they feel that they have nowhere else to turn. The Family Engagement
    Specialist position works with youth and young adults to rebuild and repair
    relationships with the supportive adults/family in their lives to reduce and prevent
    homelessness. If you are passionate about ending homeless in King County and
    enjoy working with youth, this is the position for you!


    A. Direct Service
        1. Maintain a caseload of 10-12 clients per quarter (goal of 30 clients served over
        18 month period)
        2. Engage with homeless YYA to identify strengths, needs, and family
        3. Assist YYA’s to enlist their families in services that are intended to foster
        positive/effective family relationships, housing and housing stability, and other
        support services as needed
        4. Assume responsibility for the development and coordination of family meetings
        as a means to achieve YYA’s goals by using a “wrap-around” service model
        5. Facilitate family “wrap around” teams and create action plans for team meetings.
        6. Help YYA develop a comprehensive crisis plan and assist in communication of
        the plan to all necessary parties
        7. Help YYAs work with identified family members to achieve stable housing,
        positive family and community relationships, and services where indicated.
        8. Interact with youth/young adult and team with cultural sensitivity and respect
        9. Observe/follow of the confidentiality rights of YYA
        10. Transport youth/young adults when necessary
        11. Work as a collaborative team member of the Friends of Youth Specialized
        Client Services team
        12. Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor

    B. Administrative
        1. Maintain clear, up to date progress notes and case plans.
        2. Maintain hard copies of all required documents that reflect each YYA’s
        individualized process
        3. Ensure all required confidentiality and other compliance related documents are
        current for each youth/young adult
        4. Collect required YYA data, enter data into Friends of Youth database, and
        report data to supervisor
        5. Perform other job related duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor’s degree with three years of experience in direct service role (case
        management experience preferred).
        2. 1 year minimum of experience in providing services to youth and young
        adults experiencing homelessness, ages 12 to 25 or similar population
        3. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s)
        on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies
        with the requirements of Friends of Youth.

    B. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
        1. Experience with supporting young people experiencing homelessness.
        2. Familiarity with homeless youth culture and needs
        3. Familiarity with Eastside resources
        4. Understanding of services across various systems
        5. Understanding of adolescent development
        6. Ability to establish and maintain trusting relationships
        7. Ability to develop and maintain appropriate boundaries
        8. Ability to communicate with a wide variety of professionals and family
        9. Comfortable interacting with youth in informal settings
        10. Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (written and oral)
        11. Ability to handle unique team dynamics and lead a team through
        confrontation or crisis
        12. Must learn relevant COA standards and participate in Performance and
        Quality Improvement process.
        13. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive
        14. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by
        honoring and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of
        personal identity.


    Full Time


    $19.72 / hour
