Position Title

    Volunteer Coordinator

Description

    The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and management of the
    volunteer program. This includes identifying volunteer opportunities within the
    organization, developing all volunteer materials and recruiting, training, and
    recognizing volunteers. This position also coordinates and manages the in-kind
    donations, working with the Administrative Assistant and working with the
    Development Assistant to ensure proper recognition is given. The Volunteer
    Coordinator is a key member of the Development team working closely with the
    team to ensure effective support for events, appeals and other cultivation and
    engagement activities as needed. This position supervises the Giving Tree
    Assistant.

Responsibilities

    A. Volunteer Program Coordination
        1. Design and implement volunteer program.
        2. In collaboration with program staff, identify opportunities for volunteer support
        3. Develop volunteer resources for successful volunteer recruitment, training, and
        retention
        4. Maintain volunteer program through training, orientation, record keeping,
        evaluation, and recognition.
        5. Participate in planning for agency volunteer recruitment, engagement and goals
        setting. Responsible to ensure that goals for volunteer engagement are met as well
        as accreditation requirements.
        6. Develop and manage group volunteer opportunities
        7. Work with Development Team to plan and coordinate special events.
        8. Recruit, train, supervise and organize volunteers for special events.
        9. Help coordinate agency representation at the resource fairs and community
        fairs, especially when it pertains to volunteer recruitment and in-kind donations.

    B. In-Kind and Pro-Bono Gifts
        1. Coordinate procurement of identified needs.
        2. Oversee acknowledgment, thank you notes and gifts, of in-kind donors.
        3. Work with the Administrative Assistant to maintain the storage area of in-kind
        gifts and ensure timely distribution of donated items.

    C. Special Volunteer Opportunities and Events
        1. Manage the United Way Day of Caring (both King and Snohomish counties).
            a. Coordinate with staff to find opportunities
            b. Post opportunities on the United Way website
            c. Communicate with both staff and potential groups about project opportunities
            d. Purchase and place all required items for projects.
        2. Coordinate the following in-kind drives: Back-to-School Drive, Thanksgiving
        Baskets, and seasonal items drives.
        3. Create and manage teen volunteer program
        4. Working with the Development Team, plan the annual Volunteer Recognition
        Event.
        5. Manage the annual Giving Tree program.
            a. Communicate with staff to assemble the gift list
            b. Coordinate volunteers to fill out the private and Microsoft gift tags
            c. Recruit private sites (existing and new sites)
            d. Hire, train and manage the Giving Tree Assistant
            e. Coordinate pick-up and delivery of gifts
            f. Set-up giving tree space
            g. Recruit and manage all volunteers needed
            h. Process Microsoft match
            i. Assist Development Assistant in acknowledgements for sites and donors
        6. Coordinate agency’s annual United Way giving campaign.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor’s Degree.
        2. Experience working with and supervising volunteers.
        3. Community resource development experience.
        4. Valid Washington State driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable vehicle.
        5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on
        Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with
        the requirements of Friends of Youth.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manger.
        2. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
        4. Exemplary people skills.
        5. Strong organizational skills.
        6. Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
        7. Ability to work as part of a team.
        8. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
        9. Basic computer competence in Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Outlook
        and Excel.

    $18 - 19 / hour
