Position Title

    Development Assistant


    The Development Assistant is responsible for providing support services for the
    Development Team, working effectively with team members to achieve development
    goals. This support includes, but is not limited to, maintaining efficient and effective
    relationships with potential/current donors, community members and other
    stakeholders; assisting in all agency efforts regarding the solicitation, recording,
    sending of receipts, and acknowledgement of financial gifts, as well as maintaining
    the donor database and train other development team members on Raiser’s Edge as
    needed. This position assists with special events, volunteer coordination, agency
    presentations, marketing materials, website and production of printed materials,
    and all other development activities.


    A. The Development Assistant is responsible for all aspects of database
    coordination including coordinating reports as requested by the Volunteer
    Coordinator, Accounting and the Director of Development.
        1. Maintain accurate donor records and donor database.
        2. Enter all gifts, including general donations, online contributions, matching gifts,
        event donations, and in-kind gifts.
        3. Generate acknowledgements and donor receipts in a timely manner.
        4. Enter and process credit card batches.
        5. Create queries and reports for mailings and solicitations, and as requested on
        development activity.
        6. Prepare monthly pledge reminders.
        7. Provide support to staff for cultivation and solicitation of donors.
        8. Design and manage the integration of online donor portal.
        9. Provide data entry support for event registrations and event donor gifts
        10. Provide data entry support for the Volunteer Manager, including entry of new
        volunteers and records of in-kind donations.
        11. Conduct monthly reconciliation with the Accounting department.
        12. Provide training of new users and continued support for staff on the donor

    B. Provide assistance and support for all donor cultivation activities, event
    coordination, and other development activities to ensure successful achievement
    of Development goals.
        1. Assist Director of Development in preparation and execution of successful
        2. Responsible for creating and maintaining an event handbook, which includes
        setting office-wide and institutional guidelines. The handbook includes best
        practices for fundraisers, event etiquette. The Handbook will also include preferred
        vendor and venue contact lists. Serve as the primary contact for event venues on
        the day of an event as well as the time leading up to the event.
        3. Develop relationships with vendors, for catering, banquet rooms, entertainment,
        audio/visual, photography, invitations, etc. to ensure high quality events that are
        cost efficient.
        4. Coordinate all invitation production, mailing lists, mailings, response tracking
        and coordinates the flow of information regarding events within donor database.
        5. Work closely with Volunteer Manager to enlist, assign and oversee volunteers
        for event planning, preparation, actual event and event wrap-up.
        6. Research and help to secure sponsorships and in-kind donations for events.
        7. Assist with production of event marketing and communication materials,
        including print and electronic.
        8. Manage the maintenance of records and stewardship activities related to event
        attendees and donors.
        9. Oversee registration for events, processing all registrations through the donor
        database, and coordinate day-of registration for all events.
        10. Provide support for the Friends of Youth Foundation

    C. Assist the Development Manager in administration and maintenance of
    information for the Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) process.
        1. Create monthly PQI reporting form for the team and monitor completion to
        ensure report is done in a timely manner.
        2. Process form to completion including review with Development Director,
        Development Team, signing off and placing in PQI notebook.
        3. Create and finalize quarterly PQI report process; review with development
        Director for their reporting to leadership team.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. A bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, business administration,
        communications or other related field preferred.
        2. Two to three years of administrative experience in a development/non-profit
        3. Two years of experience with Raiser’s Edge, including managing queries,
        building reports, global changes, coding tables, and data manipulation.
        4. Event planning experience preferred.
        5. Education or experience in cultural competency.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. Detail oriented; ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
        2. Professional demeanor and ability to relate to various constituents.
        3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
        4. Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications.
        5. Knowledge of Adobe design products including InDesign, Photoshop, and
        Illustrator preferred.
        6. Knowledge of web-design software preferred.
        7. Ability to interpret the data needs of others.
        8. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
        9. Valid Washington State driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
        10. Employees and volunteers who operate Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends
        of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of
        Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends
        of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the
        requirements of Friends of Youth.
        11. Ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
        12. Demonstrates a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.


    Full Time


    $17 - 18 / hour
