Position Title

    Donor Relations


    Friends of Youth is seeking a relationship builder to lead its efforts to identify, build,
    and strengthen relationships with individual donors. The Donor Relations person will
    work closely with the Director of Development to develop and implement creative
    strategies to increase donor engagement and individual giving. This is an excellent
    opportunity for someone who is looking to join a collaborative team in an exciting
    period of organizational growth.

    The ideal candidate might be someone newer to fundraising that is looking to develop
    major gifts expertise and grow with Friends of Youth as our funding grows, or it might
    be a more seasoned development professional who is seeking creative opportunities
    in a unique development role.


    Donor Stewardship
        • Grow and manage a comprehensive, strategic, individual donor stewardship
        program focused on increasing philanthropic support from individuals and
        • Lead and manage all aspects of the donor engagement cycle.
        • Conduct, analyze and utilize prospect research; work with the DD, and other key
        members to review database to identify potential donors.
        • Initiate contact with existing donors, sponsors, and prospects using appropriate
        cultivation strategies.
        • Steward potential donors and sponsors in an appropriate and timely fashion.
        • Build relationships and develop next steps for donors and sponsors (moves
        management approach).
        • Ensure all donors receive excellent stewardship and donor recognition by
        creating and initiating regular communication strategies, and working
        collaboratively with staff and board.
        • Collaborate with the Director of Development to set near-term and long-term
        sponsorship goals, establishing success metrics to monitor against.
        • Participate in meetings, reporting on success metrics and engaging committee
        as needed to achieve goals.
        • Optimize the use of the donor database by ensuring data is accurate and tracked
        in a way to enable moves management, donor renewal timing, accurate
        recognition and acknowledgement, and stewardship.
        • Develop donor-related collateral, emails and social media content.
        • Work with Director of Development to develop and execute a comprehensive
        donor stewardship strategy.

        • Plan events that advance donor involvement, cultivation and stewardship
        including securing venues and event services, coordinating invitations and donor
        attendance, tracking costs and revenue, providing post event evaluation and
        implement post-event stewardship plans for donors and prospects.
        • Work with Director of Development and staff on invitation lists and targeted
        follow up.

    General Development
        • Ensure strong and efficient systems and procedures are in place to support
        general development program execution.
        • Maintain necessary database records in Raisers Edge, files, reports, and
        resource materials pertinent to donor relations activities.
        • Work in partnership with Director of Development and other staff to contribute to
        the organization's vision, participate in organization-wide programs, and help
        create a sustainable organizational culture.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    1. 3 years of experience in fund development, with a strong track record of donor
    stewardship, event planning and achieving fundraising goals.
    2. Proficiency with MS Office and donor databases; knowledge of Raisers Edge is
    a plus.
    3. Ability to transport oneself to donor meetings throughout the East King County
    4. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in writing, by
    phone, or in person.
    5. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while staying organized.
    6. Comfort pivoting between high-level, strategic work and smaller tasks. No job is
    too big or too small.
    7. Poised, professional manner with the ability to work well with diverse individuals
    and personalities and the ability to handle and protect sensitive, confidential material.
    8. Ability to work independently, problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle    
    multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast paced, dynamic, deadline
    driven environment.
    9. Experience in developing and tracking budgets.
    10. Familiarity with modern communication tools, social media and email strategies,
    and other collaborative technologies.
    11. Ability to work flexible hours as necessary, including occasional evenings and
    weekends for events and donor meetings.
    12. High emotional intelligence, able to easily develop deep, trusting relationships
    with diverse individuals from many different backgrounds.
    13. Able to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
    14. Demonstrates a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
    and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.

    Education and Background
    1. BA/BS
    2. Valid Washington State driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
    3. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
    on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends
    of Youth.


    .8 FTE - 32 hours / week


    $22 - 25 / hour DOE
