Position Title

    Community Grant Writer

Description

    The Community Grant Writer is responsible for securing grant-based funding from
    private, corporate and community foundations. The grant writer is the project lead for
    all grant-writing projects to which they are assigned. The grant writer is responsible
    for the completion of all research, writing, production, delivery, follow-up, evaluation
    and measurement functions associated with the assigned grant-writing projects.

Responsibilities

    1. Assist in the development and review of the annual public grant-writing plan
    by researching potential grant sources from private, community, and corporate
    sectors and reporting qualified prospects to CEO for inclusion in the plan.
    2. Accept assignments to write grant solicitations to all sectors of funding,
    including private, corporate and community funding sources.
    3. Serve as the project lead on all assigned public grant-writing projects by
    performing the following:
        a. As early as possible, meet with assigned program staff to create a project
        timeline that identifies all tasks associated with the grant-writing project, defines
        milestones including deliverables and deadlines, so that the grant is completed
        in a responsive, accurate, and timely manner;
        b. Throughout the project, monitor the achievement of project milestones to
        ensure the timely completion of the grant-writing projects;
        c. Gather all information requested by the prospect into an appropriate,
        compelling, well-written, error-free application format;
        d. Submit the completed application to the prospect prior to the established
        deadline;
        e. Follow-up with prospects to determine the status of the request;
        f. If funded, work with appropriate staff to complete required status reports as
        necessary;
        g. If not funded, follow-up with prospect as appropriate to seek constructive
        feedback.
    4. Participate in professional associations, trainings, and other community
    meetings to build relationships and aid in the formulation of effective, compelling
    grant proposals.
    5. Track grant-writing activity and contact information within the Raiser’s Edge
    database, in conformance with the established norms and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor's degree required.
        2. Experience in fundraising and community relations.
        3. Experience in computers, word processing and donor tracking programs.
        4. Valid Washington State driver's license, car insurance and reliable vehicle.
        5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on
        Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with
        the requirements of Friends of Youth.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. Commitment to agency’s mission.
        2. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
        3. Experience with computers, word processing and donor tracking programs
        (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
        4. Valid Washington State driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable vehicle.
        5. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on agency business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of

        6. Able to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manner.
