Position Title

    Accounting Supervisor

Description

    The Accounting Supervisor provides direct supervision for two Staff Accountants
    (Payroll Acccountant and Accounts Payable/Cash Receipts Accountant) and directs
    day-to-day operations within these areas; oversees management of financial
    operations to ensure the agency has the proper operational controls and reporting
    procedures; implements fiscal policies as approved as well as any procedures
    established by CFO and President & CEO.

Responsibilities

    A. Accounting
        1. Manage agency day-to-day accounting activities within Accounts Payable,
        Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.
        2. Serves as primary backup for payroll accountant able to perform monthly
        payroll processing if needed.
        3. Supervise and participate in preparing and reviewing materials requiring
        analyses of supporting documents to ensure all entries are entered into the
        general ledger system properly.
        4. Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and
        agency procedures for all activites within direct supervision.
        5. Assist CFO with preparation of monthly financial reports as needed and
        required by the President, Board of Directors, United Way, Federal, State,
        County, and City agencies and other organizations.

    B. Banking and Cash Flow
        1. Ensure cash receipts are timely deposited
        2. Document & maintain cash processing procedures to ensure cash is
        safeguarded
        3. Monitor operational cash flow and daily banking activites.
        4. Perform monthly bank reconciliations.

    C. Internal Controls
        1. Ensure that the system of internal controls is operating effectively to
        safeguard assets
        2. Maintain up to date documentation of the system of internal controls at
        the agency
        3. Monitor compliance with fiscal policies and report any material or consistent
        areas of non-compliance
        4. Review fiscal policies on an annual basis and make suggestions for additions,
        changes or revisions to the CFO and President & CEO.

    D. Audit
        1. Assist CFO to successfully complete the annual audit in cooperation with
        independent audit firm and Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
        2. Implement systems changes as indicated by the annual management letter,
        if any.
        3. Assist CFO with the annual prepation and submission of the annual 990 Tax
        Returns for the agency, Foundation and CrossPath.
        4. Work effectively with external auditors to ensure successful completion of any
        individual contract audits.

    E. Supervision
        1. Recruit, hire, train, and regularly evaluate supervised staff
        2. Effectively manage the team for optimum performance

Required Skills and Qualifications

    A. Education and Experience
        1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting, or year substitute on
        top of basic work experience requirement.
        2. Work experience in supervising similar accounting positions. Non-profit
        experience is a plus.

    B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        1. An ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally responsive manger.
        2. Demonstrate a commitment to the values of equity and inclusion by honoring
        and celebrating diverse characteristics and expressions of personal identity.
        3. Intermediate to advanced user of Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) and
        intermediate to advanced Excel experience.
        4. Demonstrated knowledge of non-profit finance and accounting principles.
        5. Medical Billing experience is a plus.
        6. Knowledge of relevant COA standards and participation in a Performance and
        Quality Improvement process.
        7. Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles
        on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by
        Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on
        Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with
        the requirements of Friends of Youth.
